Thanks For Stopping By!

We love the peace and quiet that comes from living out in the country, but it’s never really completely  quiet here on our little hobby farm. There’s always something going on. And while we may not update this section every day, we do invite you to check back once in a while for the latest activity.

September 2024

Hurricane Helene packed a punch.

Hurricane Helene came roaring ashore about 65 miles from us packing 140 mph winds.

We personally experienced wind gusts of 101 mph in our area. Conditions started to go downhill around nightfall and peaked between 11 pm and 1 am, so it made for a long night.

It’s the highest sustained winds we’ve seen since moving here.

But we have much to be thankful for. Those along the coast suffered much worse and due to the fast moving nature of this storm it produced catastrophic damage into the Carolinas.

Oct/Nov/Dec 2022

From hurricanes to cold.
We prepared for Hurricane Ian at the end of September, but we got lucky. We prepared for hurricane Nicole in November and got lucky again.

Some rain and a little bit of wind out of both. While we could have used more rain since it’s been so dry, we still consider ourselves fortunate compared to those who suffered further south of us for Ian and those to the east of us for Nicole.

In between we got hit with a surprise blast of cold air and freezing lows. Very unusual before the end of October.

And then we went through 5 nights of hard freezes during Christmas and that finally put an end to our growing season.

June 2022

Freak storm hits us. A severe thunderstorm brought tornado like winds to Lingohof in late June. We lost three trees in their entirety and another three were badly damaged along with numerous branches down and debris all over the place.

Cleanup on all the downed trees is taking a while.

Take a look at the pics in our gallery below and note the one where wooden debris embedded itself on our front porch column, looking like bullet holes!
